Dining in Hong Kong is exciting, dynamic and ever-changing. The only downside is that, because space is famously limited here, you’re not always eating in front of the most resplendent of views. But that doesn’t mean there are no top-drawer dining locals in the city offering incredible vistas. Here are five of our favourites that are just as much a treat for the eyes as they are for the palate.
If you find yourself on the amazing ifc rooftop garden but fancy something slightly more discerning than burgers, then Dear Lilly is the way to go. The latest aesthetic fever-dream by designer Ashley Sutton, this bar-restaurant serves up delicious international offerings — with the buffalo wings and slow-cooked octopus being particular highlights — all while offering you a great view of the harbour.
New York's cult-favourite burger joint Shake Shack finally made its Hong Kong debut in May 2018. The ifc location — found on the mall’s rooftop garden, providing amazing views over Victoria Harbour — serves the classics, including the ShackBurger and the cheese-filled Portobello Shroom Burger. Also keep your eyes open for flavours that are exclusive to our city, such as the Milk Tea Shake and various ‘Concrete’ frozen custard desserts.
Specialising in hamayaki — a type of seaside barbecue dining popular with fisherpeople in Japan — this beautiful restaurant is a highlight of Lei Yue Mun, a small fishing village near Yau Tong, a place already famed for its excellent food offerings. Found on the ferry pier, the serene setting of Sankason Suisan offers a brilliant view of Hong Kong Island while you enjoy some of the best seafood the city has to offer.
The recipient of two Michelin stars and considered one of the best Chinese restaurants in the world, legendary Cantonese spot Yan Toh Heen relocated from its original spot to a stunning location within the InterContinental Hong Kong. Expect the same stunning fare, but now with the added pleasure of one of the best harbour views in the entire city.
The second branch of the popular Wan Chai seafood joint saw Fishsteria come to Kennedy Town — a perfect fit. Fishsteria Waterside has a breezy, open-air vibe complemented by its position adjacent to the ocean and a delicious menu that features a game-changing lobster roll, this is some of the best dining you can do by the sea.
