Hong Kong’s many high-end malls are famous for housing pristine collections from the world’s most stylish fashion houses. The city’s second-hand scene is no slouch, though. With vintage fashion increasingly popular in Hong Kong, shopping at thrift stores has never been more on-trend. Here are the city’s best vintage and second-hand antique shops if you want to get in on the action.
Bang Bang 70s
Not down with the 2020s? Make your way over to Aberdeen Street and this funky vintage store where you can discover groovy clothing and memorabilia that will make you nostalgic for the days when disco was king. Forget about time machines and head to Bang Bang 70s instead.
Little Dot Vintage Shop
Look out for the flashing pink neon sign when searching out this Tsim Sha Tsui fashion hotspot, Little Dot Vintage Shop. Vibrant red walls and colourful displays give off a serious retro vibe. Mainly selling clothing and products from the 1950s to the 1980s, browse and pick up shoes, hats, accessories and toys from days gone by.
Time Machine Collection
Time Machine Collection, a vintage shop for young women sources products from all corners of the world including Europe, North America, Japan and Beijing without limiting stock to a specific era. There are plenty of statement vintage wristwatches, silk scarfs and knick-knacks as well as clothing. Just be sure to book an appointment beforehand — via WhatsApp or Instagram (@time_machine_collection) as they don’t do walk-ins.
Vintage 1961
If you’re on the hunt for elegant vintage pieces, look no further than Vintage 1961, whose owner is a huge fan of the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. There’s an assortment of European jewellery and accessories ranging from the 1960s to 1980s, such as earrings, brooches and handbags. There are even some Victorian pieces but generally, everything is beautiful and intricate here.
You Wu Studio x JikSap
Step into this hidden upstairs bookstore for some of the best vintage finds in town. Behind You Wu Studio x JikSap's memorable blue shutter gates sits an impressive collection of limited edition books and vintage movie posters. You’ll also find random collections of stamps, old-school flyers and vintage typewriters all over the place.
InBetween
Rummage through InBetween, a dinky Sheung Wan shop for an eclectic collection of quirky home decor items and funky antique pieces. Mix up your wardrobe with timeless outfits, brighten your walls with cool vintage movie posters or simply discover new products made by local artists, designers and other up-and-comers.
Shop Little Two
Tucked in between all the ribbon stalls on Sham Shui Po’s renowned Nam Cheong Street is a rundown-looking shop stacked with an array of quirky and surprising treasures, Shop Little Two. Things you might find include old Hong Kong toys, typewriters, vinyl records and even recipes from the 19th century. Some items are still in their original packaging.
