Legal Counsel

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions covering a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialism across all countries and territories in which the business operates.
  • Drafting, review and management of contracts pertinent to businesses and functions at head office and worldwide offices.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the legal feasibility review of new businesses, programmes, initiatives and processes of the HKTB group.
  • Manage litigation and claims globally. Engage and liaise with external counsel, if necessary, to achieve the desirable outcome and minimize exposure on financial and reputation risks.
  • Formulate and promote compliance awareness of legal compliance policies and procedures to ensure HKTB’s global legal risk is managed appropriately.
  • Conduct tax and legal status review in collaboration with Finance on worldwide offices as preventive measures for potential risk exposure, if any. Deploy follow up and corrective actions to address the risks identified.
  • Conduct annual legal audit as directed by the Audit Committee.
  • Plan, oversee the execution of and authenticate the filing of the annual compliance declarations of the HKTB to support the executive management on the issuance of Annual Corporate Compliance Statement to the Board.
  • Formulate and implement general insurance arrangement to manage out risk of claims against the organisation.
  • Source and manage the service quality of professional services and insurance vendors.
  • Conduct annual legal briefing session to employee to raise and foster the compliance awareness of the organisation as a whole. Topics in the past included data privacy and intellectual property.
  • Assist the General Manager, Corporate Services with respect to board / committee matters.


Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with extensive post qualification experience for over 5 years gained in either in-house or private practice.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in multi-national jurisdiction is a must.
  • Solid problem solving and analytical ability to handle a diverse range of issues and to provide concise, commercial oriented and risk managed advice to the business.
  • Excellent contract drafting and organisational skills.
  • Resourceful and confident practitioner with ability to set priority to resolve complex business issues, while managing multiple projects and deliverables independently and under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience in handling insurance matter is preferred.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills capable to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
