Hong Kong is home to some of the best bars in the world. More often than not, some of the finest creations made by the city’s excellent bartenders just happen to be extremely photogenic too. Whether you’re chasing likes or just after a cocktail that looks as good as it tastes, we’ve got Hong Kong’s most Instagram-worthy drinks right here for you. Take a sip and get snap happy!
The Heisenberg is The Pontiac’s slushy homage to the real star of acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad: crystal meth. The blend of Aviation gin, Giffards blue curacao, Martini Bianco vermouth, lemon juice, simple syrup and absinthe is combined in a slushy machine to make for a brilliantly blue and rocky ride.
This cocktail won the 2015 D1 gin competition with its creative twist on gin and tonic. Using the aforementioned gin, five secret citrus juices, homemade tonic syrup and cold Passion des Fleurs tea, the drink is served in a lightbulb vessel to be poured over a block of skull-shaped ice.
Zuma, which has branches across the world, from London to Dubai, is no stranger to fancy looking cocktails. While it no longer serves the famous Nekuta and the Venus Fly Trap — a cocktail served inside a carnivorous pitcher plant — its new geijutsu cocktails are just as delightful. Served in charming Japanese kokeshi dolls, the Kokeshi (whisky-based) and Karami (gin-based) are both well-worth your time.
Quite possibly Hong Kong’s most Instagrammed drink, not only is the KGB served in a mini ceramic bubble bath, it comes complete with a mini rubber duck! Japanese Kyoho grape liqueur, lemon, lime and grape juices and elderflower syrup make up the liquid of the drink, which is finished with Kyoho grape tea air bubbles on top with “caviar” bubbles at the bottom.
The early bird gets the glamourous cocktail at The Envoy. This drink is a blend of Snow Leopard vodka, pineapple juice, passionfruit puree, lemon juice, French vanilla syrup and Angostura aromatic bitters. There’s also this drink’s cousin, Birds of a Feather, a blend of Talisker 10 years single malt whisky, Ballantine’s scotch, Dilmah blueberry and pomegranate tea, thyme syrup, grapefruit juice, blueberry puree and malt essence, both served in dinky birdy vessels.
Tiki haven Honi Honi serves this bowl of booze in half a globe, and it’s good for eight to 10 people to share. It’s made with four kinds of rum, peach liqueur, walnut aromatic bitters, passion fruit purée, pineapple and lime juices, and jasmine and banana syrup. Oh, and it’s topped up with a whole bottle of Taittinger brut champagne because, why not.
